On the weekend of August 24th-26th, 2018 Eastern Washington Adventures held the 7th Annual Go Play Topless Weekend at their location in Selah, Washington. This year the event was sponsored by Selah Sweets.

Friday people came and set up camp at Eastern Washington Adventures. In the evening we sat in the Biergarten making a new route plan since the area had a lot of smoke due to all the wildfires.

Saturday morning around 10 AM the group headed out for the run with five Jeeps. We convoyed through the Yakima River Canyon stopping at the Ellensburg side at Helen McCabe State Park for a break.

After the break we headed into Ellensburg to take Umtanum Road to the Wenas Wildlife area. At Durr Road we aired down and then continued up Wenas Pass. We turned off Wenas Pass onto Hanson Pond Road. At Hanson Pond we took a lunch break.

After lunch, we continued up Hanson Pond Road to the Manastash Ridge Observatory.

Next headed down Observatory Road back onto Wenas Pass. We ran down to North Wenas Road and then up Ridge Road. We ran Ridge Road on up on top of Umtanum Ridge. It started to rain a little, so we just ran the Umtanum Ridge to Durr Road stopping at the towers along the way.  We headed down Durr Road, out Sheep Company Road and back to the EWA Club House.

Back at the EWA Club House we had a potluck dinner and enjoyed sitting around the Biergarten.

Sunday morning everyone packed up and headed for home.

Thank you to all who came.

This event was eligible for a voucher toward a complimentary Discover Pass.

On Friday June 29th, 2018, volunteers headed from Selah to north of Kittitas, Washington to set up camp for the Eastern Washington Adventures Naneum Ridge State Forest Work Party.

We found a flat place to set up camp on Dawson Cutoff Road. Other volunteers showed that evening.

On Saturday morning, we meet the DNR staff at The Orchard on Coleman Creek Road. Other volunteers also came to help. At 10 AM we headed across the Naneum Ridge State Forest fixing Green Dot Markers and picking up trash. We meet back up at The Orchard with the DNR in the afternoon to load the smaller trash into their truck to haul away. The big items we piled up and gave the location to the DNR staff to pick up later.

Once camp was set up, we decided to take a sightseeing drive. We headed to the Naneum Basin, then up to Wenatchee Mountain, over snow drifts on Naneum ridge Road, and then back to camp. The trip was fun even with cold high winds, but views were not good due to the clouds very low.

On Sunday we headed across the Colockum Wildlife Area to West Bar on the Columbia River. Across the river you could see Crescent Bar. After awhile enjoying the beach, we headed back to camp taking a different route.

This was a very fun weekend thanks to all that came to volunteer. Thank you to all the volunteers, Eastern Washington Adventures Members, Kittitas County Field & Stream members, and the Department of Natural Resources.

Photos: 2018 Eastern Washington Adventures Top Member Challenge

2018 Eastern Washington Adventures Top Member Challenge
Hosted by Eastern Washington Adventures
Report and photos by Clay Graham / Selah Sweets

On Sunday March 4th, 2018, Eastern Washington Adventures members met up downtown Kittitas, Washington for the annual Eastern Washington Adventures Top Member Challenge.

We convoyed to Colockum Road. We aired down and headed up Colockum Pass to find a good starting point. The snow was soft and deep.

We started the Eastern Washington Adventures Top Member Challenge on top of the ridge at the first power lines. The challenge was the first one to the Halfway Station Marker or the farthest ahead at 3 PM.

We lined up the challenge member rigs. Left to Right; AlwayswrenchN – YJ, James – YJ, and TJ40 – TJ. We had two Jeeps and a side-by-side follow along.

I rode with TJ40, so Guido flagged the start line this year. The challenge started following another groups tracks until Powerline Road. Even following the other groups track, a few of our rigs got stuck along the way. We also pulled out a guy from the other group that was stuck.

Once we had to break trail, it started being Winchfest 2018. The snow was very challenging. James was doing very well for awhile until he got into a real deep soft drift. TJ40 past him and got out front.

AlwayswrenchN was behind for awhile. He caught up and we think he may have taken James’s line. We were a ways ahead stuck when the time hit 3 PM. The Top Member Challenge was over and TJ40 won. He had to winch a few times to get turned around. AlwayswrenchN and Blind Pilot (in the side-by-side) came to help.

We all headed back down the ridge with a few stucks on the way. A the bottom we aired up and headed out. A few of us stopped at the The Tav for dinner.

This was a very fun day thanks to who all came.

On the weekend of August 25th-27th, 2017 Eastern Washington Adventures held the 6th Annual Go Play Topless Weekend at their location in Selah, Washington. This year the event was sponsored by Selah Sweets.

Friday people came and set up camp at Eastern Washington Adventures. They gathered in the Club House to visit.

Saturday morning around 10 AM the group headed out for the run with five Jeeps. We convoyed through the Yakima River Canyon stopping once a long the way. At the Ellensburg side we stopped at Helen McCabe State Park for a break.

After the break we headed into Ellensburg to take Umtanum Road to the Wenas Wildlife area. At Durr Road we aired down and then continued up Wenas Pass. We turned off Wenas Pass onto Hanson Pond Road and took it up to the Manastash Ridge Observatory for the view. where we stopped for lunch.

Next headed down Observatory Road, onto Mud Flat Road and found a place to eat lunch in the shade.

After lunch  we  headed on and out Audubon Road to North Wenas Road. We ran North Wenas Road just a little ways and turned up Ridge Road. We ran Ridge Road on up close to the top of Umtanum Ridge and took a break to look back across at the Manastash Ridge Observatory. From there we ran the top of the ridge across to Bel Tel Road with one loop down Black Canyon on the way. On Bel Tel Road we headed to the bottom and out Sheep Company Road and back to the EWA Club House.

Back at the EWA Club House we had a potluck dinner and enjoyed sitting around the Club House watching slide shows of past events.

Sunday morning everyone packed up and headed for home.

Thank you to all who came.
