Around 5:30 PM Friday, November 2nd, 2018, my sons, Doc and Odo and I headed out from the Eastern Washington Adventures Club House in Selah toward Beverly Dunes to set up camp for the annual clean-up.

Once at Beverly Dunes we set up camp with TJ40. We used the trucks with campers as a wind block and put up a pop-up between them for shelter. We then had dinner around the propane campfire in the pop-up since it was breezy out.

Saturday morning more Eastern Washington Adventures Club members and volunteers from a few PNW4WDA Clubs showed up help. Stephanie from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) showed up around 9:30 AM so people could signed in and get some tools for the clean up.

Most of the main work was in the campground cleaned out the fire pits and picked up trash.

After the clean up some headed home and the rest of us went and played in the dunes for a few hours. The ORVs left were Foxracer’s Subaru Outback, TJ40’s Yamaha YXZ, and my Jeep JKU.

Sunday morning we woke up to a blue sky. About the time we decided to pack up, the wind started blowing hard.

Around noon we headed home. Reece followed me in his truck. Crossing the Columbia River on I90 was scary. The wind was blowing so hard, it felt like my truck with camper were going to blow over. We stopped in Vantage to top off the fuel tanks since I used a lot of fuel fighting the wind.

We headed up the the Old Vantage Highway toward Ellensburg with one stop along the way. It was slow going with the hill and wind blowing against us. The wind died down some by the time we got to the Yakima River Canyon.

This was a very fun weekend thanks to all that came.

4th Annual Juniper Dunes Clean Up
Hosted by the Midnite Mudders
Report and photos by Clay Graham / Selah Sweets/Eastern Washington Adventures.

On Friday April 13th, 2018 we headed from Selah to Juniper Dunes near Pasco, Washington to camp for the weekend to help with the Midnite Mudders 4th Annual clean up.

We set up camp around 1 PM and waited for others in our Eastern Washington Adventures group to get there. Around dark, we headed out for a night run in the dunes for a few hours.

Saturday morning we headed to the beginning of Smith Canyon road to sign in for the Midnite Mudders Juniper Dunes Clean up.  Once everyone was signed in, our group headed out with two Wranglers, to new Cherokees, and two Yamaha YXZ Side-by-sides. We worked our way out to the north end by running the wilderness fence picking up trash a long the way and back through the west side dunes to the Midnite Mudders camp.

The Midnite Mudders were starting their raffle as we pulled into their camp. There were a lot of people there that were part of the clean up.

We want to thank everyone that came out to help with the Juniper Dunes Clean Up. Thank you to the Midnite Mudders for hosting this great event.

Beverly Dunes Clean Up and Camp Out

Around 1 PM Friday, November 3rd, 2017, my sons, Doc and Odo and I headed out from the Eastern Washington Adventures Club House in Selah toward Beverly Dunes to set up camp for the annual clean-up. Reece and his son followed us in their truck.

Once at Beverly Dunes we set up camp and then sat around the propane campfire in the pop-up since it was cold. TJ40 pulled in later in the dark and joined us in the warm pop-up. The sky was clear, the moon was bright, and it was very cold outside.

Saturday morning the Trail Seekers Club showed up and started the clean up early since it was real cold out. Stephanie from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) showed up around 9:30 AM so people could signed in and get some tools for the clean up.

Most of the main work was in the campground cleaned out the fire pits and picked up trash. We also had to break up an illegal fire rock ring. A dirt bike ride came to talk to us since he was not happy we were tossing the rocks back out where they came from. We let him know fires were only allowed in the metal fire pits placed by the DNR. That did not seem to mater to him since he did not put his illegal campfire out when he returned.

After the clean up some headed home and the rest of us went and played in the dunes into the dark. The ORVs left was Foxracer’s Subaru Outback, TJ40’s Yamaha YXZ, and my Jeep JKU.

Sunday morning we woke up to the place covered in snow. This was very cool. The first time ever for us to see snow a Beverly Dunes. We ate a fast breakfast and headed out to “Go Play”! We figured we would leave later after the roads were cleared of snow.

Out in the sand dunes was very fun. It made the trails a lot more fun and more challenging for Foxracer’s Subaru Outback. We played some follow the leader with the Subaru Outback, Yamaha YXZ, and Jeep JKU looking for fun. What a blast!

Around 1 PM we headed home. The roads were good for us heading back to Selah by the way of SR24, but Foxracer had a longer time getting home since I90 was closed.

This was a very fun weekend thanks to all that came.
