Around 5:30 PM Friday, November 2nd, 2018, my sons, Doc and Odo and I headed out from the Eastern Washington Adventures Club House in Selah toward Beverly Dunes to set up camp for the annual clean-up.

Once at Beverly Dunes we set up camp with TJ40. We used the trucks with campers as a wind block and put up a pop-up between them for shelter. We then had dinner around the propane campfire in the pop-up since it was breezy out.

Saturday morning more Eastern Washington Adventures Club members and volunteers from a few PNW4WDA Clubs showed up help. Stephanie from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) showed up around 9:30 AM so people could signed in and get some tools for the clean up.

Most of the main work was in the campground cleaned out the fire pits and picked up trash.

After the clean up some headed home and the rest of us went and played in the dunes for a few hours. The ORVs left were Foxracer’s Subaru Outback, TJ40’s Yamaha YXZ, and my Jeep JKU.

Sunday morning we woke up to a blue sky. About the time we decided to pack up, the wind started blowing hard.

Around noon we headed home. Reece followed me in his truck. Crossing the Columbia River on I90 was scary. The wind was blowing so hard, it felt like my truck with camper were going to blow over. We stopped in Vantage to top off the fuel tanks since I used a lot of fuel fighting the wind.

We headed up the the Old Vantage Highway toward Ellensburg with one stop along the way. It was slow going with the hill and wind blowing against us. The wind died down some by the time we got to the Yakima River Canyon.

This was a very fun weekend thanks to all that came.

Blue Mountains Backroads Camping Trip – Day 3
Hosted by Eastern Washington Adventures.
Report by Clay Graham. Photos by Clay & Doc Graham / Selah SweetsEastern Washington Tourism

On Tuesday July 10th, 2018, Eastern Washington Adventures Club members started off with another nice day from Misery Campground in the Umatilla National Forest.

After breakfast we head out toward Pomeroy, Washington. We stop at Clearwater Lookout & Clearwater Guard Station along the way.

In Pomeroy we stopped for fuel. It took 12.88 gallons of gas to do the loop from Dayton to Pomeroy.

We then went to lunch just down the road at Tonia’s Cafe. It was a good lunch.

The group spit up. Kevin, his son, I and my two boys headed to Hermiston, Oregon to pick up my P30 work truck our friend was fixing.

We picked up the P30 in Hermiston. I drove it and Kevin’s son Jared drove my Jeep to Benton City, Washington where we left the truck to pick up on another day.

This was a great trip. Something worth doing again some day.

Blue Mountains Backroads Camping Trip – Day 2
Hosted by Eastern Washington Adventures.
Report by Clay Graham. Photos by Clay & Doc Graham / Selah SweetsEastern Washington Tourism

On Monday July 9th, 2018, Eastern Washington Adventures Club members woke up early in the hot tents at Umatilla National Forest Bone Springs Warming Shelter in Oregon. We had breakfast and hit the road.

The first stop was at Jubilee Lake. We took a look around then headed on.

Next we drove by Timothy Springs Campground to see it and then onto Lookout Mountain for lunch. Most of the guys hiked in to see the lookout. Doc and I stayed back at the rigs.

The next stop was at Troy, Oregon. There most everyone went for a swim in the Grande Ronde River. We picked up some supplies at the store, then headed up the mountain.

Back in Washington Don’s Jeep Cherokee stared to over heat with the hot weather and steep climbs. We stopped twice on our way to find a camp for the night.

We checked out the Misery Drift Inn to camp at but decided we would keep looking. I am glad we did, because we found an awesome place to camp called, “Misery Campgrounds”.

We set up camp and had dinner. Most everyone took a drive to see the sunset. Doc and I just walked over an looked off the mountain.

The night was warm and the stars were bright.

EWA Club Blue Mountains Backroads Camping Trip – Day 1

Blue Mountains Backroads Camping Trip – Day 1
Hosted by Eastern Washington Adventures.
Report by Clay Graham. Photos by Clay & Doc Graham / Selah SweetsEastern Washington Tourism

On Sunday July 8th, 2018, Eastern Washington Adventures Club members headed from Selah to Benton City and met up with other EWA members.

After a short break, we headed toward Dayton where we planned to have lunch. One of the EWA members thought he had a faster route, so we took it. As we were heading on the short cut, he then got to thinking it may have not been the right way. We stopped and looked at a map and decided to turn around and head back to I-182 and go the original way.

In Dayton, we stopped for fuel and then went to lunch. The place we picked for lunch was Chief Spring’s Fire & Irons Brew Pub. The food was great. Good beer too!

After lunch we headed up into the Blue Mountains in the Umatilla National Forest and made our way to the Kendell Skyline Road. We check out the sights along the way. We met Chadyb from Overland Bound at Table Rock Lookout. He told us about the area and then we headed on.

It was getting late, so we started looking for camp spots. We found a big area for our group to camp behind Bone Springs Warming Shelter. We set up camp and had dinner around the propane campfire.

On Saturday February 17th 2018, Eastern Washington Adventures held the 13th Annual Slab ORV Area Meet & Greet.

It was a very windy day, but many came out for the fun anyway. We ran most of the area. Some damage happened to rigs that took the harder routes.

This was a very fun event and a great day thanks to all who came.
