On Saturday October 28th, 2017 around 10 AM outdoor enthusiasts met up at the Eastern Washington Adventures Club House in Selah, Washington for the “Halloween Backroads 4×4 Adventure”. We convoyed to the Upper Wenas part of the Wenas Wildlife Area for a backroads run up Cleman Mountain.

We aired down at the Hay barn off North Wenas Road and headed up W1100. At the top of Cleman Mountain we ran the the ridge Southeast to the end of the Green Dot where we stopped for lunch.

After lunch we back tracked past where we came up and ran the top of Cleman Mountain Northwest. We continued into the Naches Ranger District onto FS1712 and ran it to FS1701 (Bald Mountain Rd.). At FS1701 we took a break and said goodby to the people in tow of the rigs that had to head back over to Western Washington for work.

We turn up FS1701, took FS1716 and then turn on Hog Ranch Road to go back toward North Wenas Road. We aired up at the parking area off Maloy Road. Most people headed back home and a few came to the Eastern Washington Adventures Club House.

This backroads run was fun. The views were great even though it was a little hazy at times in the distance.

Back at the Eastern Washington Adventures Club House we had a potluck and Halloween Party. Some of the kids played in the Haunted House. The Halloween party was a lot of fun.

Oktoberfest Backroads 4×4 Adventure

Report and photos by Clay Graham / Selah Sweets

On Saturday October 29th, 2016 around 10 AM outdoor enthusiasts met up at the Eastern Washington Adventures Club House in Selah, Washington for the “Oktoberfest Backroads 4×4 Adventure”. We convoyed to the Upper Wenas part of the Wenas Wildlife Area for a backroads run up Cleman Mountain. It was a rainy day.

We aired down at the parking area off Maloy Road and headed up Auduban Road then went up Hog Ranch Road. As we got higher, we found some snow. We continued into the Naches Ranger District onto turn up FS1716 and then onto FS1701 (Bald Mountain Rd.). We onto FS1712 at headed across Cleman Mountain stopping for lunch along the way. After lunch we ran to the east end of the Green Dot Road on Cleman Mountain. We were hoping for a view of the Upper Valley but the clouds were to thick. We back tracked to head off the mountain. Due to the thick fog, we turned down the wrong Green Dot Road and had to go back up and hit the right one on down the ridge (W1100). We aired up at the Hay barn off North Wenas Road and headed back to the Eastern Washington Adventures Club House. This backroads run was fun. The views were not very good due to the clouds.

Back at the Eastern Washington Adventures Club House we had a Oktoberfest potluck.

This was a fun event thanks to all who came.

Eastern Washington Adventures
Thanksgiving Weekend Christmas Tree 4×4 Run
Report and photos by Clay Graham / Eastern Washington Adventures

On November 29th, 2014 (the Saturday after Thanksgiving), Eastern Washington Adventures Members met up at Oak Creek Ace Hardware in Naches, Washington for the annual Thanksgiving 4×4 run. On this run we had 5 Jeeps. 2 JKs, 2 TJs and a YJ.

Around 10 AM headed out. We convoyed to the Nile and turn up FS1701 (Bald Mountain Road) in the Naches Ranger District. We aired down and headed on up.

Just before topping the ridge, we ran into a traffic jam due to ice on the snow covered road. Three of the Jeeps got through before the road got completely blocked. The two jeeps in the traffic jam helped get the problem rigs turned around so they could go back down the hill.

Once we all were back together, we ran FS1701 on up through a section of Oak Creek Wildlife Area back onto Forest Service Land and stopped at the intersection of FS530 where we took a break and hunted for Christmas Trees.

The Kids picked out their Christmas Trees and cut them down with a little help. We tied the Christmas Trees to the tops of the Jeeps and moved on up FS1701.

At the end of FS1701 on top of Manastash Ridge, we turn onto 4W694 to get some trail time in. The trail was fun with the snow and ice on it.

We made our way up to the 4W694 Manastash Lake View Point and took a break. On the way we passed some side-by-sides and Toyota Trucks. Foxracer’s dog decided to follow one of those groups out. We all turned around searching for the dog. At 4W670 we found the dog.

Since the sun was going down, we headed on down the mountain by the way of FS1701 and then Hog Ranch Road to North Wenas Road. As we turned onto Hog Ranch Road Foxracer’s Jeep feel into a deep hole in a mud puddle. It looked as he was going to flop over. He drove on out and we were on our way.

Down at North Wenas Road, we aired up and then headed to the Eastern Washington Adventures Club House for a potluck dinner.

This was a very fun event thanks to all who came.

Photos: 2014 PNW4WDA Region 4 “Pick Up A Mountain“

Pick Up A Mountain
Hosted by PNW4WDA Region 4.
Report by Clay Graham. Photos by Clay Graham / Eastern Washington Adventures

Every year on the third weekend of September, Region 4 of the Pacific Northwest 4 Wheel Drive Association holds a big event at Jim Sprick Park to pick up trash in the surrounding mountains of the Naches Drainage.

People started setting up camp Friday afternoon. By the night the park had many people there camping.

Saturday September 20th, 2014 the day started with a driver’s meeting at 8 AM.

Around 8:30 AM we took a group photo of the rigs and headed out to clean up the mountains.

Our group Eastern Washington Adventures and Selah Cub Scout Pack 276 headed up FS1701 which is across the road from Jim Sprick Park. We stopped just past the intersection of FS1701 & 4W670 to help Ron Rutherford’s group close a illegal mudding area on WDFW managed land. Oak Creek Wildlife Area Manager Ross Huffman was there to help.

Next we ran to the end of FS1701 and turned up 4W694. We picked up trash along the way. We took a lunch break at the Manastash Lake View Point. After lunch we continued on 4W694. We picked up some trash at Funny Rocks. At 4W695 we turned up it and stopped to pick up trash at Moon Rocks. Next we headed down 4W695 and turned back onto FS1701. We ran FS530 up to Bald Mountain and took 4W675 down. We ran FS1702 back down to SR410 then ran back over to Jim Sprick Park.

Around 4:30 PM the games started for the Junior Jeepers along with the Corn Shucking Contest. Lisa Graham won the Corn Shucking Contest this year. This is the second year a member of Eastern Washington Adventures Club won. After all the corn was shucked and cooked, the potluck dinner began. Next was the raffle. There were many great raffle prizes. After the raffle the DJ played music and some danced.

On Sunday Region 4 had a free breakfast for the volunteers. The Eastern Washington Adventures Club, Selah Cub Scout Pack 276 and few other volunteers cooked breakfast.

———————————————————————————————————————

PNW4WDA Region 4 wants to thank all who helped make this event work, thank you to all the volunteers that picked up trash and thank you to all that donated.
