National Public Lands Day Volunteer Work in Yakima County
By Clay Graham / Eastern Washington Adventures

On Saturday, September 25, 2010 for National Public Lands Day the Yakima/Kittitas Forest Watch added the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office ORV Rules signs to the entrance of a few DNR areas.
It was 52.5 miles from the first sign to the last.

Here are a few pictures of our work day.

We met up at the Ahtanum Sno-park at 10 AM to place the first sign.
Greg Mackey from the DNR came out to help us for the day. Greg brought an auger to make the job easier for us.

Mike Williams (DNR SE Recreation Program Manager) and DNR Officer Gary Margheim stopped by to touch base with us.

The first sign up.

We next headed a few miles down the road to Nasty Creek Corrals to place the second sign.

The second sign up.

The crew at the Ahtanum State Forest.

Next three of us drove miles to place the third sign at the Wenas.
We placed the sign at the Maloy & Audubon Road Y.

This was a great day thanks to all that came out.

A special thank you to Deputy Brad Martin & Deputy John Greenough with the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office for getting the signs made,
Pepsi for making the signs, Jake Emrick for the post, Greg Mackey from the DNR for all his help and to the volunteers of Eastern Washington Off Road & Yakima/Kittitas Forest Watch for placing the signs.

Thursday Night Get Together at Snipes Mountain Brewery
Report and photos by Clay Graham

On Thursday September 23rd, 2010 I drove to Sunnyside Washington to meet the others for the
Eastern Washington Off Road Thursday Night Get Together at Snipes Mountain Brewery.

I was a little early so I took a few pics.

This GT it was only Guido, Craigen and myself.
We all started off with the sampler.

Guido not sure about drinking good beer.

After the samplers and dinner I had a glass of Extra Blonde Ale.

We got some growlers of Extra Blonde Ale to go.

Snipes Mountain Brewery has a good atmosphere, great food and some pretty good beer!

I plan to come back when I get back down that way.

On September 22nd, 2010 I was in Spokane for a DOT conference where my wife won an award. I decided to take a drive out to the local ORV area to check it out. Here are a few pics I took of the park. I will have to wheel it another day when I have more time.

Spokane Trip
Report by Clay Graham / Eastern Washington Adventures

On September 20th-22nd, 2010 we went to Spokane for a DOT conference where my wife won an award and had to classes.
Here are some pictures of our trip.

Heading to Spokane. Coming up on the Columbia River.

What a long hi-way across the plains.

Here we are finely checked it to the Red Lion Hotel headed to the Awards Banquet.

Lisa and her co-worker on the board.

The next day Lisa had some classes so I just played on the lab top until she got a lunch break.

Here are some cool glass elevators.

I took the stairs down this time so Lisa did not know I was coming down behind her.

Here we took another glass elevator to the 12 floor to see the sponsors.

Out on the balcony it had a great view.

Looking down on the demo buses.

We went down to check the buses out .
Here is looking back up at where I took the last picture.

If I were in the business, I would like to have a bus like this one.

This one is a little different.

Lisa went to another class so I headed back up stairs. Here is looking from in front of our room door.

This dude was jamming out.

After the last class on Tuesday, Lisa came up to get me for dinner. Here we are riding down the elevator to go to dinner at Northern Lights Brewery. Here are those pictures: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2 … 8ebbcfbbeb

On Wednesday morning I drove out to Riverside State Park ORV Area to check it out. Here are those pictures: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2 … 6a1510ef47

When I got back to town, I took Lisa to do some site seeing before we headed home. There is a cool park across the river from where we were staying.

I want one of these for the kids.

Cool walking bridge.

Lisa was trying to get me to do the Sky ride over the dam. I don’t think so!

A look back at our hotel.

This was different.

This was very strange!

We have seen the TV ads for Chili’s so Lisa wanted to eat there to give it a try. Since there are no Chili’s in Yakima we guess there would be one in Tri-cities since we share the TV station with them. On November 14th, 2009 we wheeled Juniper Dunes near Pasco. We decided to eat in Tri-cities before heading back home. We asked TJ40 where a Chili’s was. He did not know, so he called his wife to have her look it up. The nearest Chili’s was in Spokane. Lisa was not happy to hear that.

On September 22nd, 2010 Lisa finely got to eat at Chili’s. LOL

After lunch we headed home. There were a lot of little twisters a long I-90.

Pick Up A Mountain
Report & photos by Clay Graham / Eastern Washington Adventures

At 8 AM on September 18th, 2010 we had the driver’s meeting at Jim Sprick Park for the Pick Up A Mountain clean-up.
Here are a some pictures of the event.

Drivers Meeting

The clean-up run.

Yakima/Kittitas Forest Watch aired down at Jim Sprick Park and drove across the road onto FS1701 to headed up the mountain.
Joining us on the run was three rigs from the Vancouver 4 Wheelers, one rig from Washington Virtual Jeep Club and hards91xj that stayed on the roads with his Toyota pickup so he would not get damage.

We stopped at the camping area at FS530 to pick it up.

We moved on up to the 4W694 trail head.

At 4W670 we drove down to FS1701 and then back up onto 4W694.

We stopped off at Funny Rocks to clean it up and let some of the Vancouver Wheelers play some during lunch.

We moved on taking 4W695 to Moon Rocks.

Moving on down the mountain.

Turning onto FS1701 we stopped to regroup.

At FS530, we turned up toward Bald Mountain. We turned down 4W675.

Down on FS1702 we regrouped before the long drive back down to Hwy410.

Back at Jim Sprick Park we found out that hards91xj some how rolled his Toyota off of a forest road.
He should have just took the trail and he would have gotten less damage.

Activities

At the park there were a lot of fun things to do.

The kids raced Jeeps.

There was a big raffle.

Corn shucking contest.

Divorce course.

Pot luck.

Some of our groups clean-up crew.

People took shelter from he rain for the raffle.

There was a dance after the raffle.

Sunday morning.

Guido looking for Rain-x. lol

The kids playing with the prizes they won the day before.

Sid won the Inspirational Award.

Pancake breakfast.

Volunteers cooking for a lot of people.

The forest is a cleaner place now.

This was a great event thanks to all who helped make it happen.
