Year Ends 4×4 Snow Run – Day 2 of 2
Hosted by Eastern Washington Off Road.
Report by Clay Graham. Photos by Clay Graham / Eastern Washington Off Road

On December 30th, 2007 Eastern Washington Off Road met up in Cowiche at the parking area at the end of the pavement on Cowiche Mill Road to air down. I lead us up onto Cowiche Ridge. Most of our tracks from the day before were gone. I took Tail Gunner before the first big snowdrift since I was in a low rider.

We made it to the place the snow stopped us the day before. The guys tried to push on farther, but no luck, all three stuck. I pulled 2 rigs out with the Tweety Jeep.

As I headed back down the trail, Icesis tried to make his own line and got stuck. Once we were all going things got real fun. In the open we had fun passing each other. Sometimes we couldn’t see from the snow coming blowing onto the hood. We stopped for a break before dropping off the ridge. P309’s CJ was covered with snow.

Down at the gravel pit P309 broke his clutch linkage playing. Icesis winch him up. P309 headed to the trailer with most of the group. Icesis and I ran up to see how the snow was on the road up to Hatton from Cowiche Mill Road. Icesis ran into a big snow drift. Icesis backed up and was able to plow through the snowdrift. He stopped on top of the climb to ask us where the trail was since there was no sign of it. I took the lead breaking trail. Some how Icesis backed up over a stump so used my rig as a tow point and winch off of it. It was getting late so we headed on out.

Thanks to all that came for the fun time.

Report by Clay Graham. Photos by Clay Graham & ? / Eastern Washington Off Road

On December 29th, 2007 Eastern Washington Off Road members met up in Cowiche at the Quick Stop. We headed to the parking area at the end of the pavement on Cowiche Mill Road to air down.

I lead the way up onto Cowiche Ridge until I ran into a big snow drift. Roger took the lead and right off found out he had to air down more.

At the first Snow Drift Hill the real fun began. This hill is always a lot of work to get to the top in the snow season. Roger made it up. I tried making my own line. Jerry took a run at Roger’s line a few times before topping the hill.

On up the trail I got stuck. BSLM was nice enough to pull cable. That’s what co-pilots do. 🙂 Jerry winched me out and we were on our way with Roger back in the lead.

Up the trail a little ways I got stuck in Rogers tracks. The snow was real deep and soft. Roger help me through. Icesis was next to get stuck in the same place. Jerry helped him out. We turned around and I got stuck in the same place going back down. Roger pulled me though the deep snow.

Back down at the parking area we aired up. .

Another real fun day thanks to the guys that came a long.

BSLM’s Christmas Tree Run
Hosted by Eastern Washington Off Road.
Report by Clay Graham. Photos by Clay Graham / Eastern Washington Off Road

On December 22nd, 2007 BSLM and I took a run up to BSLM’s cabin for a Christmas Tree on some private land. We stopped at Nasty Creek Corals to air down. As we were airing down a guy came up in a Tundra. He wanted to do some snow wheeling, so we told him to come along.

Up past BSLM’s gate the trail was hard to find. He used his GPS to keep us on the road. We found a good hill for the kids to sled down for awhile.

Next we headed on to BLSM’s cabin to find a Christmas Tree. The Tundra had a hard time turning around because of my tracks. I came into the cabin a little sideways. BSLM got a tree and we were off for more wheeling fun. We made another stop so the kids could play in the snow.

After a shot time, we had to get going because we had to be at the All Wheelers Off Road Club Christmas party by 6 PM. We airred back up at the Nasty Creek Corrals and were on our way.

That evening we had our club party and had a lot more fun. This was a really fun day.

Sledding Run at the Ahtanum State Forest
Hosted by Eastern Washington Off Road.
Report by Clay Graham. Photos by Clay Graham / Eastern Washington Off Road

Around 10 AM on Sunday December 9th, 2007 we meet up at the Highland Quick Stop in Cowiche for the Eastern Washington Off Road Annual Sledding run. We headed up Cowiche Mill Road and turned off on C1000. This is where we aired down.

We moved on up Cowiche Ridge and got into the forest. We went until Victor’s Bronco lost his brakes after backing down one of the steeper hill climbs he could not make. I walked back up to the XJ to turn around and go back down. Since we had to do some repairs on Victor’s rig we decide to just sled on that slick hill climb.

The kids started sledding, my Lab played in the snow, and we did a little work on the Bronco’s brake line at the Master Cylinder. We did what we could to the Bronco then walked over to check out Fatboy’s TJ with the new 33×12.50 MT/Rs.

Most join in on sledding the down the slick hill and I took photos. It was one fast sledding hill.

We took a group photo and packed up to go. Victor headed back toward home. Fat boy and I found a good spot to put the All Wheelers Off Road Club Top Member Challenge Marker for the event happening in January.

On down the trail we found Victor broke down. It seemed to be a fuel switch problem. They got it running and he was off again. Well for a few miles. I end up towing him back to Cowiche with the XJ. Have you pulled a Ford lately?

This was a fun run for all.

Slab ORV Area 4×4 Run
Hosted by Eastern Washington Off Road.
Report by Clay Graham. Photos by Clay & Hank Graham / Eastern Washington Off Road

We meet up at the Slab around 11 am on Saturday December 8th, 2007. It was great to see so many Eastern Washington Off Road members come out.

We started off with a group photo but did not get everyone. A few more joined us during the day.

We headed on out and did not make it to far before Bobsracing broke his T-case in his K5 Blazer. He parked it and rode in another K5.

We first hit Flex Canyon. A few rigs in the group followed the Tweety Jeep through. BenW making Flex Canyon look easy. Lil sami came close to flopping over backwards climbing the wall. His hitch saved him.

Next we headed over to Power Pole Canyon. Two rigs didn’t make it that far. Blackdog’s Ranger broke a front hub and this Blazer (I can remember his name) got stuck. Fraidenburg winched Blackdog up the hill. Blackdog took his rig out to the parking area and then rode with BenW. Scumby winched the Blazer out.

Next we hit some of the climbs in the middle of the ORV area and then went on over to Roll Over Hill.

BenW wanted to climb the hard part of Roll Over Hill. I pointed where it was. BenW climbed the hill on a hard line but not the one I meant. I told him that was the wrong line. You should have seen the look on Blackdogs face. BenW then said show were it is because he wanted drive up it. The look on Blackdog’s face then was of someone getting the extra pucker factor. I drove over and show BenW where the line was. He climbed it and made it look easy until the top. His rig was searching for traction and did top the hill after a little hoping. I am not sure how Blackdog was doing.

No one else wanted to climb Roll Over Hill. We drove over to the next canyon and did those hill climbs. It got pretty cold quick so we headed on home.

This was a fun little run thanks to all that came out. I hope to see more of you come out for the Slab ORV Meet & Greet on February 16th, 2008.
