On Saturday October 28th, 2017 around 10 AM outdoor enthusiasts met up at the Eastern Washington Adventures Club House in Selah, Washington for the “Halloween Backroads 4×4 Adventure”. We convoyed to the Upper Wenas part of the Wenas Wildlife Area for a backroads run up Cleman Mountain.

We aired down at the Hay barn off North Wenas Road and headed up W1100. At the top of Cleman Mountain we ran the the ridge Southeast to the end of the Green Dot where we stopped for lunch.

After lunch we back tracked past where we came up and ran the top of Cleman Mountain Northwest. We continued into the Naches Ranger District onto FS1712 and ran it to FS1701 (Bald Mountain Rd.). At FS1701 we took a break and said goodby to the people in tow of the rigs that had to head back over to Western Washington for work.

We turn up FS1701, took FS1716 and then turn on Hog Ranch Road to go back toward North Wenas Road. We aired up at the parking area off Maloy Road. Most people headed back home and a few came to the Eastern Washington Adventures Club House.

This backroads run was fun. The views were great even though it was a little hazy at times in the distance.

Back at the Eastern Washington Adventures Club House we had a potluck and Halloween Party. Some of the kids played in the Haunted House. The Halloween party was a lot of fun.

Wagons East!
Naches Pass Trail 4×4 Run

Hosted by Eastern Washington Adventures
Report and photos by Clay Graham / Selah Sweets / Eastern Washington Adventures

The Historic Naches Pass Wagon Trail is one of the most poplar trails in the Northwest. We like to run this trail in the fall after the dust is gone and we do it in the opposite direction of the settlers for more of a challenge climbing the west end.

On Friday October 13th, 2017 Eastern Washington Adventures members met up at Lost Meadow to camp for the annual “Wagons East! Naches Pass Trail 4×4 Run”. Since it was Friday the 13th and we were in the woods, we kept an eye out for Jason. The only excitement was is snowed on us earlier in the day and the night was very cold.

The morning of Saturday October 14th it was frozen out. Around 10 AM we headed from our camp at Lost Meadow off of NF19 to cross over to Pyramid Pass with 10 rigs. We ran into snow on FS19 road not to far from camp.  We air down as we turned onto FS1914 and ran in snow most of the way over to the west end of the of Naches Trail. On the West side we met up with one more rig at the end of the Naches Pass 4×4 Trail on FS70.

We air down to trail pressure and start the 4×4 part of the run.  The first climb was just muddy. We hit snow at the top of it. We stopped there to wait for the all the rigs to make the climb, then headed on to the first cross road and had lunch.

After lunch we headed on. Four of of us took the forest service roads around the next section and the rest made the snow covered climb. We met back up at FS7080 then headed on up to Government Meadows for a break. There some fed the birds. Next we took the short walk to see the Urich Cabin and the meadow.

After the break we headed on traveling east on the Naches Trail. The snow got deeper on the trail for aways.

At FS1913 we turned off the Naches Pass Trail to skip the tight part near the east end. We parted ways with the guest and headed back to camp.

On Sunday we took a drive up to Raven Roost. The view up there were great. It was a prefect day to see Mount Rainier. You could see miles of burnt forest from the Norse Peak Fire.

This was a very fun event thanks to all who came.

Report and photos by Clay Graham / Selah Sweets

On Saturday October 29th, 2016 around 10 AM outdoor enthusiasts met up at the Eastern Washington Adventures Club House in Selah, Washington for the “Oktoberfest Backroads 4×4 Adventure”. We convoyed to the Upper Wenas part of the Wenas Wildlife Area for a backroads run up Cleman Mountain. It was a rainy day.

We aired down at the parking area off Maloy Road and headed up Auduban Road then went up Hog Ranch Road. As we got higher, we found some snow. We continued into the Naches Ranger District onto turn up FS1716 and then onto FS1701 (Bald Mountain Rd.). We onto FS1712 at headed across Cleman Mountain stopping for lunch along the way. After lunch we ran to the east end of the Green Dot Road on Cleman Mountain. We were hoping for a view of the Upper Valley but the clouds were to thick. We back tracked to head off the mountain. Due to the thick fog, we turned down the wrong Green Dot Road and had to go back up and hit the right one on down the ridge (W1100). We aired up at the Hay barn off North Wenas Road and headed back to the Eastern Washington Adventures Club House. This backroads run was fun. The views were not very good due to the clouds.

Back at the Eastern Washington Adventures Club House we had a Oktoberfest potluck.

This was a fun event thanks to all who came.

The Historic Naches Pass Wagon Trail is one of the most poplar trails in the Northwest. We like to run this trail in the fall after the dust is gone and we do it in the opposite direction of the settlers for more of a challenge climbing the west end.

On Friday September 30th, 2016 Eastern Washington Adventures members met up at Lost Meadow to camp for the annual “Wagons East! Naches Pass Trail 4×4 Run”.

Saturday October 1st around 10 AM we headed from our camp at Lost Meadow off of NF19 to cross over to Pyramid Pass. On the West side a lot of others were there to wheel with us. We started up the Naches Pass Trail, and 4 more joined the group.

As always, the first section of trail took some time to top due to the steep climbs and rugged trail conditions.

We stopped at Government Meadows on Naches Pass 4×4 Trail to see the cabin.

The rest of the trail was just an easy drive other than having to watching out you did not fall off of one of the main bridges.

At FS1913 we turned off the Naches Pass Trail and said our goodbyes to many that came along. We went back to camp and to eat dinner around the campfire.

This was a great day thanks to all who came and the people we met on the trail.

On Sunday we woke up to everything covered in frost. At 9 AM we did a run up to Ravens Roost. We ran the upper part of the Power-line Trail. The view was nice even though we did not get to see Mount Rainier. We did get to see Mountain Goats on a ridge across from us. One of the members had a camera with enough zoom to get some photo. My Galaxy 6 phone was not that good.
