On Saturday August 9th, 2008, Eastern Washington Off Road & All Wheelers Off Road Club members met up on FS590 for the Shoestring 4×4 Run. We took FS590 up and onto 4W617 (Lily Pond).

Scuba had turn around due to a fuel leak right before the bridge. The bridge was real slick from the mud hole at the beginning of it. Right after the bridge there was a good hill climb. On top there was another good climb.

At Lily Pond we turned up 4W676 (Kaner). A ways up 4W676 we stopped for a break.

Up at the top of 4W676, we made a wrong turn since most of the trail marks are missing. We found 4W306 (Manastash Ridge) and was back on track. Near 4W308 (Shoestring), Soggy Mountain had his cross member come loose. It was a quick fix and we were going again.

We turning off 4W306 onto 4W309 (String). Waycrazy made another wrong turn so I went on to the intersection of 4W309 (String) at 4W308 (Shoestring) to wait for them to turn around.

We turn right on 4W308 (Shoestring) and run the trail to Region 4 Meadows where we took a break.

We turning off 4W308 (Shoestring) onto 4W307 (Tripod) and ran it back to the top of Manastash Ridge. We turn off 4W307 (Tripod) onto 4W694 and then down 4W686 (including Wood Pecker). On Milk Creek Road we turned up FS590 to get back to the base camp.

A few of us camped but most headed home.

This was a great trip thanks to all that came.

Shoestring Run & Camp Out

Run called by Waycrazy of the All Wheelers Off Road Club
Report by Clay Graham. Photos by Clay & Hank Graham / Eastern Washington Off Road

On Saturday, August 11th, 2007, we met up the All Wheelers Off Road Club camp on FS1708-590. After Waycrazy fixed his CJ5 we headed out to FS1708 (Milk Creek) and then on up. FS1708 turned into 4W686 right around the corner from where we turned onto FS1708 because the land slides. We turn on FS589 to 4W685. 4W685 took us back onto 4W686. Near the end of 4W686 there we had a few routes we could take. All of them were steep, loose, and dusty. At the top we turned onto 4W694 and ran it to Funny Rocks. A few of the guys played on them.

After a little time there we back tracked 4W694 and ran it to 4W307 (Tripod Flat). We next turned on 4W308 (Shoestring). We stopped for lunch at Region 4 Meadows.

After a short time we were on our way. We crossed some small bridges and drove on tank tracks on the trail. We crossed a longer bridge and then came up to a Y in the trail. The trail to the right was 4W309 (String). At this intersection Scuba had to stop to fix his tie rod. As Scuba was fixing his XJ the Timber Tamers came by us on 4W309. After they past a CJ came up from behind us. There was two real nice guys named John and Dave Hopper. They knew us from the web site and decided to come a long with us.

We moved on up 4W308 (Shoestring) but didn’t get very far when Waycrazy broke his steering. After Waycrazy got his CJ drivable we get around the corner and Scuba’s front tire goes flat. Printthis came back down and aired Scuba’s tires up. Then we were on our way. At the top of the climb we turned onto 4W306 (Manastash Ridge) and ran it north a short distance then turned off onto 4W676 (Kaner Flat). We ran 4W676 (Kaner Flat) down and turn onto 4W617 (Lilly Pond). At the end of 4W617 was at FS1708-590. Our camp was just down the hill from there.

Thanks Waycrazy for wanting to have this run. Thanks to everyone that came and made it a fun run.
