Around 5:30 PM Friday, November 2nd, 2018, my sons, Doc and Odo and I headed out from the Eastern Washington Adventures Club House in Selah toward Beverly Dunes to set up camp for the annual clean-up.

Once at Beverly Dunes we set up camp with TJ40. We used the trucks with campers as a wind block and put up a pop-up between them for shelter. We then had dinner around the propane campfire in the pop-up since it was breezy out.

Saturday morning more Eastern Washington Adventures Club members and volunteers from a few PNW4WDA Clubs showed up help. Stephanie from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) showed up around 9:30 AM so people could signed in and get some tools for the clean up.

Most of the main work was in the campground cleaned out the fire pits and picked up trash.

After the clean up some headed home and the rest of us went and played in the dunes for a few hours. The ORVs left were Foxracer’s Subaru Outback, TJ40’s Yamaha YXZ, and my Jeep JKU.

Sunday morning we woke up to a blue sky. About the time we decided to pack up, the wind started blowing hard.

Around noon we headed home. Reece followed me in his truck. Crossing the Columbia River on I90 was scary. The wind was blowing so hard, it felt like my truck with camper were going to blow over. We stopped in Vantage to top off the fuel tanks since I used a lot of fuel fighting the wind.

We headed up the the Old Vantage Highway toward Ellensburg with one stop along the way. It was slow going with the hill and wind blowing against us. The wind died down some by the time we got to the Yakima River Canyon.

This was a very fun weekend thanks to all that came.

7th Annual Go Play Topless Weekend

Report and photos by Clay Graham / Selah Sweets / Eastern Washington Tourism

On the weekend of August 24th-26th, 2018 Eastern Washington Adventures held the 7th Annual Go Play Topless Weekend at their location in Selah, Washington. This year the event was sponsored by Selah Sweets.

Friday people came and set up camp at Eastern Washington Adventures. In the evening we sat in the Biergarten making a new route plan since the area had a lot of smoke due to all the wildfires.

Saturday morning around 10 AM the group headed out for the run with five Jeeps. We convoyed through the Yakima River Canyon stopping at the Ellensburg side at Helen McCabe State Park for a break.

After the break we headed into Ellensburg to take Umtanum Road to the Wenas Wildlife area. At Durr Road we aired down and then continued up Wenas Pass. We turned off Wenas Pass onto Hanson Pond Road. At Hanson Pond we took a lunch break.

After lunch, we continued up Hanson Pond Road to the Manastash Ridge Observatory.

Next headed down Observatory Road back onto Wenas Pass. We ran down to North Wenas Road and then up Ridge Road. We ran Ridge Road on up on top of Umtanum Ridge. It started to rain a little, so we just ran the Umtanum Ridge to Durr Road stopping at the towers along the way.  We headed down Durr Road, out Sheep Company Road and back to the EWA Club House.

Back at the EWA Club House we had a potluck dinner and enjoyed sitting around the Biergarten.

Sunday morning everyone packed up and headed for home.

Thank you to all who came.

Eastern Washington Adventures
Naneum Ridge State Forest
Work Party & Camp Out
Hosted by Eastern Washington Adventures with cooperation from the Department of Natural Resources.

Report by Clay Graham. Photos by Clay & Odo Graham / Selah SweetsEastern Washington Tourism

This event was eligible for a voucher toward a complimentary Discover Pass.

On Friday June 29th, 2018, volunteers headed from Selah to north of Kittitas, Washington to set up camp for the Eastern Washington Adventures Naneum Ridge State Forest Work Party.

We found a flat place to set up camp on Dawson Cutoff Road. Other volunteers showed that evening.

On Saturday morning, we meet the DNR staff at The Orchard on Coleman Creek Road. Other volunteers also came to help. At 10 AM we headed across the Naneum Ridge State Forest fixing Green Dot Markers and picking up trash. We meet back up at The Orchard with the DNR in the afternoon to load the smaller trash into their truck to haul away. The big items we piled up and gave the location to the DNR staff to pick up later.

Once camp was set up, we decided to take a sightseeing drive. We headed to the Naneum Basin, then up to Wenatchee Mountain, over snow drifts on Naneum ridge Road, and then back to camp. The trip was fun even with cold high winds, but views were not good due to the clouds very low.

On Sunday we headed across the Colockum Wildlife Area to West Bar on the Columbia River. Across the river you could see Crescent Bar. After awhile enjoying the beach, we headed back to camp taking a different route.

This was a very fun weekend thanks to all that came to volunteer. Thank you to all the volunteers, Eastern Washington Adventures Members, Kittitas County Field & Stream members, and the Department of Natural Resources.
