Christmas at Camp Fife
Report by Clay Graham. Photos by Clay Graham / Selah Sweets / Eastern Washington Tourism

On Saturday December 22nd, 2018 after the Yakima Horse Drawn Wagon Rides, the Graham Family (AKA “The Selah Sweets Staff”) headed up to Camp Fife in Goose Prairie to spend Christmas. It started snowing as we were unloading at the Curtis Gilbert Lodge. Since the lodge does not have power, we lit the propane lights and started at fire in the wood stove. It wasn’t long before we were warm and ready to enjoy our vacation.

Over night we got a lot of snow. Sunday morning you could see how much it snowed by the amount of snow on the vehicles we drove in. It snowed off and on throughout the day.

Monday it was a grey day with just a little blue in the sky here and there. Our oldest son Hank, his wife and two sons came up in the afternoon to have Christmas Eve dinner with us and open some gifts. It was a very fun evening having all our children and grandchildren with us. Hank and he family left later that night to go back home in Yakima.

Tuesday, Christmas morning it was clear and cold but very beautiful. No one was in a rush to leave even though they new they had presents under the tree back home in Selah. We slowing packed up the rigs and headed home.

The was a very good Christmas trip.

Beverly Dunes Clean Up and Camp Out
Hosted by Eastern Washington Adventures with cooperation from the Department of Natural Resources.
Sponsored by Selah Sweets
Report & photos by Clay Graham – Selah Sweets / Eastern Washington Tourism

Around 5:30 PM Friday, November 2nd, 2018, my sons, Doc and Odo and I headed out from the Eastern Washington Adventures Club House in Selah toward Beverly Dunes to set up camp for the annual clean-up.

Once at Beverly Dunes we set up camp with TJ40. We used the trucks with campers as a wind block and put up a pop-up between them for shelter. We then had dinner around the propane campfire in the pop-up since it was breezy out.

Saturday morning more Eastern Washington Adventures Club members and volunteers from a few PNW4WDA Clubs showed up help. Stephanie from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) showed up around 9:30 AM so people could signed in and get some tools for the clean up.

Most of the main work was in the campground cleaned out the fire pits and picked up trash.

After the clean up some headed home and the rest of us went and played in the dunes for a few hours. The ORVs left were Foxracer’s Subaru Outback, TJ40’s Yamaha YXZ, and my Jeep JKU.

Sunday morning we woke up to a blue sky. About the time we decided to pack up, the wind started blowing hard.

Around noon we headed home. Reece followed me in his truck. Crossing the Columbia River on I90 was scary. The wind was blowing so hard, it felt like my truck with camper were going to blow over. We stopped in Vantage to top off the fuel tanks since I used a lot of fuel fighting the wind.

We headed up the the Old Vantage Highway toward Ellensburg with one stop along the way. It was slow going with the hill and wind blowing against us. The wind died down some by the time we got to the Yakima River Canyon.

This was a very fun weekend thanks to all that came.

Halloween Camp Out at Camp Fife
Report & photos by Clay Graham / Selah Sweets / Eastern Washington Tourism

On Friday, October 26th, 2018, Eastern Washington Adventures Club members met up at the Curtis Gilbert Lodge at Camp Fife for the annual Halloween 4×4 Run. We built a fire in the stove and then had a potluck dinner. We enjoyed the night talking about adventures. There were many elk right outside the front door making noise all night.

Saturday morning we had a potluck breakfast and then headed out for the 4×4 run with four Jeeps, a XJ, a YJ, a TJ, and a JK. Our first stop was at the end of the pavement of Bumping River Road to air down. Next we headed up the road to Granite Lake for a break. It was very peaceful at Granite Lake.

After awhile, we headed on up the mountain to Miners Ridge. The view was great on top. Mount Rainier was clear and standing out! With binoculars you could Sunrise Visitor Center at Mount Rainier National Park. We had lunch there and enjoyed the view.

After lunch we headed back down. Two rigs headed to the Copper City 4×4 Trail and two of us headed back to Camp Fife.

Back at camp Fife it started raining. So we sit around the fire staying warm. When the others got back, we had a potluck dinner. It rained all night.

Sunday morning we had a potluck breakfast and packed up for home. We aired up our tires and took a walk over to the Camp Fife Dining Hall. Two of our members help getting it built years ago.

We head home around noon. The fall colors were great along SR410.

This we a great time thanks to all who came.

Camp Fife is a Boy Scout camp and is located in the Cascades off of Chinook Pass near Bumping Lake in Goose Prairie, Washington.

2018 Packwood Labor Day Weekend Flea Market

2018 Packwood Labor Day Weekend Flea Market
Report & Photos by Clay Graham / Selah Sweets / Eastern Washington Tourism

On Wednesday, August 29th through Monday September 3rd, 2018, we had the Selah Sweets Food Truck set up at the Packwood Timberland Library for the Packwood Labor Day Weekend Flea Market.

We brought over the P30 and the F350 pulling the 1961 Chinook Travel Trailer. It worked out great having both vending units and we had enough ice for the event.

Saturday Gone Fiddling Again came and played out front of Selah Sweets. We want to thank them for playing for us.

The weather was nice over all. Sunday was the hottest day helping with the Shaved Ice sales.

The evening were nice and we spent sometime across the road at the Packwood Brewing Company.
